On August 23, 2012 Lance Armstrong publicly gave up his fight against the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) and its accusations that he took banned substances throughout his career, and also that he was a key figure in his team's conspiracy to hide such doping. He did not admit guilt, but withdrew his legal fight against USADA. USADA swifty declared Armstrong banned for life from all competitions, and vacated his career prizes, including his 7 victories in the Tour de France.
It is not yet known whether UCI will agree with the USADA sanctions. The Tour de France is apparently waiting to see what UCI does before deciding whether to strip Armstrong of his titles.
It is not yet clear what, if any, sanctions will be given to Johan Bruyneel, who is also accused of participating with Armstrong in the conspiracy.
